Sustainable Project Management at the Core of International Cooperation in Higher Education

June 24, 2025

Sustainable project management is increasingly recognized as a cornerstone of international cooperation and a key driver in the advancement of higher education institutions.

At the recent RETEACH consortium meeting held in Palermo, Italy, our coordinators from the University of Ljubljana presented insights on how sustainability can serve as a transversal enabler for educational reform and institutional growth. The event was hosted by CESIE ETS and the Università degli Studi di Palermo.

The RETEACH initiative brings together universities from Mongolia, Romania, and Italy with the shared objective of supporting the reform of Mongolia’s education system.

Both SUPROM and RETEACH are part of the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) programme and address a set of common challenges: enhancing university systems, improving competences, and driving innovation, sustainability, and digital transformation.

During the meeting, the SUPROM team emphasized the value of sustainable project management not only in terms of effective coordination but as a strategic tool that supports:

  • Curriculum development
  • International academic collaboration
  • Professional development of students and academic staff

Such exchanges underscore the importance of fostering synergies between EU-funded initiatives. These collaborative moments highlight how integrated, forward-looking approaches can lead to more inclusive, future-oriented and globally connected higher education systems.
